First Cyber-Artist
In Space

This, folks, is my first plein-air computer painting. It's of our camground at Bishop. A simple landscape, it's the product of several years of work and thought.

For a while now I've been incorporating bits of the computer screen (icons, windows, tools) into my paintings using woodblocks to print them on canvas and paper. I was including chat room dialogues in paintings of people and objects. Then I began painting landscapes and suburban homes with the disembodied voices of computer windows superimposed on them.

This painting is unfinished. When I return to my studio I'll incorporate the woodblock tools bars into the empty box and transfer some dialogue or image from our trip. I would have liked to have been able to complete the paintings in situ, but this is my first effort, and there were bound to be snags. I'd also liked to have remembered to bring some white paint along.
