Soundpole Interactive Prototype: Project Debrief

This prototype was for a simple interactive musical instrument/toy. Jennifer Darmour came up with the idea of a sculpture with integrated sensors one could play like an instrument, but with gestures rather than touch.

The idea is that these would be freestanding in a public space and much more visually interesting than the prototype here.

Prototype Demonstration Clip >>
This two minute clip illustrates the basic premise of the interactivity. There are four sensors on the pole that trigger different loops. As your hands get closer to the loops they increase in volume. There is also a dial knob that swaps out the loops banks for different sounds. We also experimented with effects to warp the sounds.
