Zion and
Las Vegas

In the morning we got our first glimpse of where we'd parked. Craig played guitar and the harmonica that his friend Andrea gave him for the journey. We tarried a bit as we have done most mornings, in order to be more sponge like and soak up as much of this nature stuff as we could possibly bring back to LA with us.

Drove to Zion
Drove through Zion
Stopped to Paint in Zion
Wrote a folk song about guns in Zion

Craig put the camera on automatic.

Then we drove back into Nevada to Las Vegas We both have cousins in Las Vegas.

We stopped by my Aunt Ginnie & Uncle Mike's first. The whole clan was there, all in the pool, cooling off on a hundred and two degree day. We met up with Dayvid Figler-Native Las Vegas Lawyer/Poet/Radio Personality and Craig's cousin Harry the Cop/Poet at Cafe Roma accross from the college

Harry had Cop stuff to attend to, so Dayvid and his friend Beth climbed into the Van and directed us to the Enigma Cafe where he had lined me up a post-show performance. The Enigma is an oasis of un-Vegas right in the middle of it!

Lenadams (Len) Dorris welcomed us into his courtyard garden with beverages and the perfect atmosphere for an intimate gathering of interesting artists, poets and friends. Dayvid did his Christmas Tree piece and introduced us. I did a set of songs and spoken stuff, Craig did the zen sort of artist-sits-at-the-table-and watches-everything thing.

Dayvid dazzled us with some more of his material, did a few of his Vegas numbers and read some journal excerpts. Harry the Cop/Poet showed up and did a piece and then I improvised melodies to some of the stuff I'd written on the road. We captured none of it on the Quick Cam. The batteries were run down and we were tired, but it was a good time and you should'a been there.
